Air Niugini & EFM Jointly announced recently a new initiative negotiated regarding all Lae destined Cargo.
In concluding and announcing this agreement, both parties have indicated that from 1st September, 2018, Air Niugini Cargo will be assisting businesses and the public of Morobe Province, mainly Lae City, with a split rates system using the current code of Lae to upload all cargo at Nazab (NZB) then to be transported into Lae City.
” The new initiative will see a new Lae City destination added so that clients are able to nominate Lae Citi for all deliveries into the city of Lae being picked up from Nazab and delivered to the EFM warehouse in Lae (Malaita Street) in the hub of the Commercial & industrial center of Lae. EFM will be labeling the warehouse with an Air Niugini Cargo corporate Logo for ease of recognition in due course.” Bob Howden, the MD of EFM said.
Air Niugini Cargo’s General Manager Gus Kraus said, “we are very happy with this agreed initiative as it has been a long time since Lae Citi was recognized as a destination by Air Niugini for Airfreight and this will change from the 1st September 2018 giving the ability for deliveries being made into Lae City and closer to the hub of all activities in Morobe.”
This will greatly assist business and the public as well as Government institutionsons and hopefully grow the Lae business market whilst giving the everyday person the option to consign to Lae City.”
Naturally, both parties indicated “there will be a slight increase to rates to allow for the transport cost for collection and drop -off between the airport and Lae city and vise versa but Air Nuigini and EFM have agreed to keep this to a minimum allowing for vehicle and manpower to collect and drop-off yet saving time/ maintenance and wear and tear on all those that would otherwise need to collect their goods from the airport .”
Mr. Howden, the proprietor of EFM said “we are very pleased with this initiative with our National Airline and as a business man in Lae, I will ensure the business community is aware of this new initiative and will promote it as best as we can. We will also be able to consign freight from Lae Citi to Port Moresby intially making it easier for clients dealing with one reference point in Lae Citi rather than drive all the way to the airport at Nazab.”
The development of rates has been completed for both to Lae City and from Lae City and will roll out between Port Moresby and Lae City initially from 01 September. Air Nuigini Cargo will then commence a review for a full country wide delivery/receipt of this new destination from all Air Niugini domestic airports to Lae Citi soon after.
